Maintenance Assistant

Arkansas Tech University is seeking a dependable and motivated Groundskeeper to help maintain the appearance of our campus. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors by providing high-quality grounds maintenance and support for campus events and activities.The successful candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and is committed to providing exceptional service to the university community.<ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Mow, edge, trim, weed, and maintain lawns, landscaped areas, flowerbeds, athletic and recreational spaces, and other university grounds.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Plant, water, prune, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, sod, and other landscape materials.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Collect and remove litter, debris, leaves, and other materials to maintain a clean campus environment.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Operate commercial grounds maintenance equipment including zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other light- to medium-duty equipment.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment, including oil changes, blade sharpening, greasing, fueling, cleaning, and minor repairs.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Assist with setup, breakdown, and transportation of materials and equipment for university events, special projects, and exhibits.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Report safety hazards, equipment issues, and maintenance needs to supervisors.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Follow university safety procedures and properly utilize personal protective equipment.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Work effectively with Facilities Management staff and other university departments to support campus operations.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications <ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, facilities maintenance, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Experience operating commercial lawn maintenance equipment such as riding mowers, zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, or blowers.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to read and understand work instructions and safety information.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to safely lift and carry at least 25 pounds.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Valid driver's license and ability to meet university driving requirements.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications <ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Experience maintaining grounds for a college campus, school district, municipality, healthcare facility, park system, or large commercial property.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Experience operating zero-turn mowers and commercial landscape equipment.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Experience supporting event setup and teardown activities.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Knowledge of safe operation of landscaping equipment and grounds maintenance practices.</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Demonstrated history of reliable attendance and teamwork in a grounds or facilities environment.</li></ul>Main Campus - Russellville, AR Physical Demands <div style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-left: 35px"><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted ? </li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to climb ladders and stairs, crawl, kneel, walk and stand for extended periods of time? </li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Comfortably work at heights?with proper PPE </li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to use hand and power tools proficiently</li><li style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Ability to work in all-weather conditions </li></ul></div>
